Large Hadron Collider

I am very excited that the largest high-energy particle accelerator in world, ever will go on line and start test tomorrow. They have been chilling it down to run at -272F! What's at stake? Well, scientist hope to discover the Higgs Boson, which while sounding slightly off-color, is actually the one particle not discovered yet predicted by the Standard Model. Its described, in short hand, as the particle that accounts for a whole lot of the unaccounted for mass in the universe. You really should check it out!

On the other hand, there is the possibility that the colliding particles might form micro black holes. How awesome is that! And the best part: creating black holes is realllly disconcerting, so in addition to all the media, people are actually suing to stop the experiment from happening! I love it. Sci-Fi in our time. Anyways, I don't think it can actually happen as the energies are too low, and the the holes would immediately dissapate. Of course if you are getting your particle physics framework from a theology blog there may be bigger problems....

Check this article out for an answer to the black hole problem.
