However, I would say that the tension can be applied to many things - not just art.

For example, food. Buying organic and healthful foods often costs many more times the money that could be spent on say, Taco Bell. Or any leisure activity. Or just living life as an American and purchasing goods - that in itself contributes to many an injustice. But if we didn't consume these things, would the jobs be eliminated and therefore cause harm? Most of life is held in that tension between a good and a greater good - or even a good and a lesser good.

Anyhow, I know this comment has just muddied the issue, but I do think ultimately, it's a good thing to wrestle with these questions and it is far from easy or simple.

Thanks for writing!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2617964716805982363.post-60801673498580437192013-10-13T22:25:00.481-07:002013-10-13T22:25:00.481-07:00Isn't it nice when the Bible still surprises u...Isn't it nice when the Bible still surprises us - especially when it's in an area where you know it backwards and forwards. Especially, why then leaders in a country that idolizes leadership and believes in "git er done" at all costs?”

** Yeah - Why Leaders?
Jesus instructed His Disciples NOT to be called Leaders
For you have “ONE” Leader - the Christ. It's my view that the Barth who is often talked about "as Barth" is already a shadow of Karl Barth, the Red Pastor, especially as related to social justice. How do those who separate Barth from social justice account for the powerful role of Crisis theology in Germany? With that said, I would question to degree to which Cone is truly "Barthian" at this point. Does Cone's construction of liberation theology truly allow for the freedom of God? Or is God captured by a political notion of liberation? If you notice page 60, Cone seems to be jettisoning Barth at this point while acknowledging his own formation within "white thought" as one of the oppressed who can't completely escape white theology (61). I could say more here, but thanks for the stimulating question.

~raymondAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2617964716805982363.post-43677161985582103432013-03-13T10:57:22.395-07:002013-03-13T10:57:22.395-07:00thanks, Rod. As for this article, a student of mine actually brought it to my attention. My problem with this idea of a pill solution is that it relegates racism to the individual level. As you preached last Sunday, the inequalities that exist between races is largely reproduced at the institutional and societal levels. Consequently, the problem does not end with eradicating individual racism (even if it were possible). My two cents. --Nancy Wang YuenAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2617964716805982363.post-76955214808379387912012-03-11T08:52:21.381-07:002012-03-11T08:52:21.381-07:00Hi Erin hope all is well,..I stumbled onto your bl...Hi Erin hope all is well,..I stumbled onto your blog by accident.
